Snow at the Farm: So We Have Hot Chocolate

The freak snowstorm in late October took the farm by surprise. We lost a few branches here and there, but nothing like what some people around here got: trees down everywhere, power outages for more than a week. We count ourselves lucky to have enjoyed a day by the fire, big storm outside, hot chocolate inside.

Later, we also had falafel for lunch, which Greg picked up at the Nyack Farmers Market from Taiim Falafel Shack of Hastings-on=Hudson. Their hummus and falafel is just to die for.

A few more snow snaps, after the jump.

It started out light. The fig tree is not happy, though.

As the day went on, the snow got heavier and the house got colder. So I got out the hot drinking chocolate called Midnight Oasis.

I must say that while I do love the chocolate, I don’t love the name. I would never in a million years have hot chocolate at midnight, unless I was trying to pull an all-nighter. I would never get to sleep from the caffeiene.

So you bring milk to just below a boil, then whisk in the chocolate.

I put a bunch of mini marshmallows in the cup before I poured the chocolate. That’s right kids. Before.

Gorgeous.

And the snow keeps coming.

And all the while, we have a brisket braising in the oven. Yum.
