De-Christmas-fied at Last

As much as I’m known as the girl who loved Christmas, there’s really something gratifying — almost relieving — about putting it all away after it’s over. After all that crap those cherished decorations get wrapped in tissue paper and boxed up for next year, the living room feels clean. Fresh. Dare I say even a little big. (OK, that’s a joke. it’ll never be big. But right after the tree is down and the decorations all gone? It feels that way!)

We put the tree out on New Year’s Day this year. And on Sunday, the rest of Christmas was away until next year. We enjoyed a cocktail by the fireplace, and marveled at how wonderful it can be to be minimal again. Happy New Year!
