World Premiere: ‘The Generator’

Leigh Flayton, otherwise known as the Farm’s great friend Boo, had a triumphant day May 5, 2015: Cherry Lane Theatre in the West Village hosted a live reading of her play, “The Generator.”

The play, based on true events (but fictionalized, I can promise you!) is set on a front porch during Hurricane Irene. (Hmmm!)

The Cherry Lane Theatre included it as part of the “Tongues” series of readings.

The play was described as such:

Based on true events surrounding 2011’s Hurricane Irene, The Generator tackles a phenomenon covered recently by the media: “neighbor wars,” or unexpectedly violent conflicts arising from seemingly minor sources such as noisy leaf-blowers or power generators. The play addresses the current polarized social and political climate in America, which prompts the question: are we in this together, or is it every man for himself?

About 45 to 50 people — some friends and family, others just because! — attended. lj050515generator06

I didn’t take a photo of the actors or the stage, but after the performance, Simonne Hurse,, who played Tina, Tweeted about the reading:

After the play, actors and audience milling about:lj050515generator09 lj050515generator10 lj050515generator11 lj050515generator12

And afterward, a celebratory toast to the playwright. (We stayed for dinner, too: See our post on Commerce, West Village.)
