A Drive through the Prairie

After lunch, we took the car out to the prairie for some sightseeing and nostalgic visits to places like “the home place,” where Greg’s dad grew up. When the wind whistles the tall grass and it sways back and forth like waves along the fields, you start to understand such references as “for amber waves of grain.” Even though these are green.

A few shots from the car:

This here is “The Home Place,” where Greg’s dad Herb grew up:

It’s been completely rebuilt since then:

We also passed a humongous dairy farm along the way:

Now we’ve headed back in town. This is the view of downtown St. Peter from Gustavus Adolphus College on the hill:

Downtown St. Peter:

There was a barbecue truck in one of the parking lots, so we decided to give it a shot:

We went for the brisket. Eh, not great. We should have gone for the pork. It’s more forgiving. Right, Doris?

On the way to Mankato, we snap a pic of Dutch and Phyllis’ old place:

And then, after we stopped in Mankato for a couple of bottles of wine, the weather started to turn. A tornado was on the way!
