Paris on the Hudson
Dining at Buffet de la Gare is the closest thing to dining in France without getting on a plane. It’s not just the faded mirrors and painted pressed tin. It’s not just the copper pots. It’s not just the cassoulet. (Though you’d be hard-pressed to find a better one.)
It’s the warmth. For the past 25 years, Annie and Gwenael Goulet built a restaurant that was an extention of their home. They were not only your host, they were your friends. But they are ready to retire. So a few weeks ago, they handed over the restaurant to a new couple, Luc and Nicole Dimnet. Just as Annie was pregnant with Stephanie when she and Gwen opened the restaurant in November, 1985, Nicole has a tiny baby on her hands: Luca is 5 months old.
As we enjoyed another fantastic meal on Friday, we got to meet the Dimnet family, and got to know the next generation that will welcome us to one of the homiest restaurants in the Hudson Valley.
