MORE EATING IN TAIPEI

I loved this drawing of Angus Beef cuts we saw in Taipei. It was on a sign advertising some sort of butcher or beef shop (the store was closed when we went by so we're not sure what the shop was.)
It's difficult to find good Taipei-style cooking in Beijing because the climates are so different, the right ingredients are hard to find. We only had a short time in Taipei, so on the flight there we made a list of everything we wanted to eat on the trip. Max grew up there - and I've been there with him a few times before - so our list was long...

NIGHT MARKET, TAIPEI

Max and I went to Taipei last week for a wedding. We think it's possibly one of the best food cities in the world - especially at night, when hundreds of small vendors fire up their grills, griddles and stew pots at night markets around the city. Some of the markets, like this one, are relatively small - only a block or so of vendors. Some - like the famous Shilin Night Market, seem to fill up a whole neighborhood.
We stopped at this vendor for dessert - hot & sticky rice balls, that you roll in ground sesame seeds...
