Escaping Heat for More Pasta

Still reeling from images left in our minds from “Heat,” we had to have pasta for dinner one night at the beach.

Luckily, Joe and Alex had told us about Piancone, a restaurant and Italian deli on the main street in Bradley Beach.

The restuarant looks good (and has a lot of press on the wall), but we were interested in the deli. If you click on the link above and click on "Italian Specialties," you'll get a feel for the look of the shop.

They had all kinds of prepared foods like lasagna and chicken scarpiello; they had a deli counter with all kinds of cured meats; and they had a bakery, with cookies, bread and other sweets. It all looked great.

And it was just what Buford ordered. We got meatballs (a little dry) and sausages (amazing) and a container of marinara (great) and meat sauce (also great) and a two bags of pasta. We also got a small helping of seafood salad with calamari, shrimp, mussels and scallops (fresh and briny, just like the sea), and some biscotti and pignoli cookies for dessert (not too sweet, just like I like it).

I don’t have any photos of the meal, but here’s dessert. We served the cookies with warmed-up figs and blackberries.
