Our beans. Our lettuce. Our onions. The only thing we didn’t raise was the skirt steak. We just don’t have room for that. Yet.

Sunday Supper, Mostly Harvested from SCF
Sunday, June 26th, 2011Update on the Gardens: Cherries, Chives, Columbine, Iris, Peonies and More
Saturday, May 28th, 2011The plants got a late start this year, but the garden seems to be perking up quite a bit now that Memorial Day weekend is here. Here’s a look around, starting with the chives in the herb garden:
Celebrating Mother’s Day with Burgers and Beans
Sunday, May 8th, 2011A simple supper with Grandmom’s favorite dish as the centerpiece. A few daffodils and a nice glass of wine — how could you go wrong? Happy Mother’s Day.
‘On the Road’ Denver Green Chili
Thursday, January 27th, 2011As might be expected, our book club has turned into a sort of cooking club, too. Each meeting, the hosts try to match the meal with the book, whether through food mentioned it it, or inspired by a region. Kris and Tom were hosts for “On the Road” by Jack Kerouac, where Sal and Dean spend a hell of a lot of time in Denver, yes, yes, yes. And if you’ll remember, Sal also fell in love with a Mexican girl — and we do mean girl — while working the cotton fields.
So the centerpiece of this meal was Denver Green Chili, and so as not to be outdone, Kris and Tom also presented the group with homemade tortillas, fer Chrissakes. Another incredible meal by the Goatherd.
Recipe, after the jump.
Christmas Dinner at the Farm 2010: Tamales, Hibiscus Margies, Baba Au Rhum
Saturday, December 25th, 2010We didn’t have a morning present exchange this year. Instead, Mom and Leigh went to brunch and the three of us headed to Rockland Lake (for the third day in a row!) for a nice winter walk. We met back at Sour Cherry Farm around 5 for bloody marys, hibiscus margaritas, and a tamale supper.
Beans on Toast and a Nice Salad
Wednesday, November 17th, 2010Greg made a simple supper for us on a Wednesday night, but it looked so beautiful I couldn’t resist taking a photo! Beans on toast with peas and onion, and an arugula salad from the garden with butternut squash and shaved Parmesan.
Delishy!
Cathy, Thor and Jahn Arrive at the Farm!
Friday, September 3rd, 2010It’d been four years — four years! — since we’d seen Thor and Cathy. We were so happy to welcome them and their son Jahn to the farm for a long-overdue visit. On our first night, we had pulled pork and barbecued beans. And Jahn had carrots.
Recipe: Olive Oil Roasted Tomatoes and Fennel with White Beans
Saturday, July 31st, 2010I came across this recipe in Bon Appetit and liked the do-ahead nature. Plus, it’s a great way to have a warm dish that uses fresh tomatoes. Sometimes you get tired of just slice-and-serve.
Garden Update: Coneflowers, Cosmos, Blackberries and Butterfly Bushes
Sunday, July 25th, 2010Here’s our occasional update on the progress in the fields at Sour Cherry Farm. The early summer harvest is slowing down, and we’re getting more flowers and ornamentals as we wait for late summer tomatoes and fall crops like figs, apples and pears. Here’s a look at what’s going on.
Fourth of July Supper: Steak, Corn, Beans and Bread. How American of Us!
Sunday, July 4th, 2010We had a grand old time celebrating the grand old flag at Lettie’s on Independence Day. We grilled. Drank wine. And laughed. Tons.
