A warm spring evening. Tickets to “Anything Goes.” A sip and a snack with my friend Kelli. How lucky are we!
Kelli:
The restaurant is super cute. Marble tables, old beams, wine bottles on display on shelves, and doors that open to the street:
We tried two of the flatbreads:
The meatballs:
And the beet salad:
Unfortunately we can only really recommend the flatbreads. The beet salad was cold and the green beans were so crunchy they might have been raw, and the meatballs just didn’t have that much flavor. This was Kelli’s second visit, and she had enjoyed the beet salad before, but not this time. She also told me not to get the risotto — too soupy.
But the flatbreads, yes, those were delishy:
A nice spot for a glass of wine and a few bites before the theater:
The 411 on Gallo Nero: Marble tables, exposed beams and shelves of wine bottles lining the walls: a vinoteca-style cafe in midtown. Stick with the flatbreads for a quick and satisfying pre-theater meal. 402 W. 44th St., New York, NY. 212-265-6660.
