I won’t repeat what I said over there — you can read the review on Small Bites here: Restaurants We Love: Tavern at the Highlands Country Club — but I will let SCF readers know that my guest was … Melanie! We hadn’t seen each other in quite a while, so it was great to catch up.
And guess what? The fried chicken was To Die For. Get up to Tavern and order it: and soon!

The 411 on Tavern: A farm-to-table restaurant that epitomizes the Hudson Valley: local produce, meat, even grains, are served in a setting that manages to be both rustic and grand all at once. There’s a cozy tap room with a copper bar, a big ballroom with a crystal chandelier and a veranda that looks over the golf course. The fried chicken, by chef Jason Wood, is nothing short of a miracle. 955 Route 9D, Garrison, NY. 845-424-3254. highlandscountryclub.net.
