On the Hunt for Evening Fragrant Flowers

After our discovery of the joy of outdoor movies last summer, we began thinking about how to set up a  permanent garden “room” for movie-watching.

Our plan: install some speakers, and figure out a convenient surface to rest the projector.

And for landscaping? Great-smelling flowers. If we’re going to be spending dark summer evenings back by the garage, we may not be able to enjoy the sights of the garden, but why shouldn’t we be able to enjoy its aromas?

After lots of research, and a question to the Master Gardeners column at lohud.com (lots of great resources there!), I came up with a couple of solutions.

1. Evening-scented stock.

Looks to me like this stock might be simliar to forget-me-nots when it comes to self-seeding. Fingers crossed!

A couple of  also-rans:

Daphne:

I did not plant those two, but I did order a jag of polianthes tuberose, a Mexican bulb that is supposed to have intoxicating aroma. We shall see!
