We made this in honor of Repeal Day, which is Dec. 5. But Dec. 5 being a Thursday this year, we didn’t want to get too high-octane until Friday. So Dec. 6 it was.
The Corpse Reviver was included in the Savoy Cocktail Book by Harry Craddock, published in 1930, which makes it an appropriate toast to thank heavens that all that silly non-drinking nonsense was repealed 80 years ago to the day on Dec. 5. Yes. It’s potent enough to wake the dead, but it’s also a very well balanced, enjoyable drink.
Corpse Reviver No. 2
1 ounce gin
1 ounce Cointreau
1 ounce Lillet Blanc
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
2 dashes absinthe
Orange peel garnish
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel.
