OK so Shakespeare I’m not (line 345 here in Hamlet), but I am a little sad to see these two quinces go. We bought them as young whips only a stick thin (see their arrival at the farm in this post here), and they’ve grown 7 feet tall and 4 feet wide. (They’re bound up with rope here so you can’t tell their actual width.)
But they’re just too big for our little microfarm. They take up a lot of space, and they have big prickers on their stems, and frankly, they don’t produce enough quinces to make them worth our while. You have to earn your keep at Sour Cherry Farm!
So off they go to a good home — Bill and Derek’s 8 acres upstate — and we’ll decide what will replace them in the spring.
