What a wonderful holiday with family and friends. We planned a menu (over lots of wine!), cooked with our families, then brought everyone and all the delicious food together under one roof (with lots of wine!).
We did turkey three ways. Irene dry-brined hers; the Burnses stuffed butter and herbs under the skin; and Hunna spatchcocked and smoked ours.
“It looks like a chicken, Daddy!”
Samantha and I made Parker House Rolls —
and a Chocolate-Coconut Pecan Tart:
And then we loaded up the wagon and headed over to The Ranch.
We got busy marking Manhattans and opening oysters.
Montauk oysters from the Nyack Farmers Market.
We also started peeling potatoes.
And sipped on Irene’s fantastic chestnut-apple-celeriac soup:
Lots of potatoes.
With the oysters, champagne of course!
Sam’s cute little Thanskgiving dress:
3 dozen beauties!
Sadie, Tom and Kris:
Eamon, Irene, Leigh, Jim and Greg:
Peggy and Mom:
Making mashed!
The turkeys:
Carved turkeys:
Peggy’s Savory Corn Pudding:
Kris and Tom’s Cornbread Stuffing:
Gravy!
Mashed!
Sweet potato souffle:
Rutabega puree:

The cast:

Greg and Irene:
How and why did I not take my own family photos! Nothing we me and Greg, or Sam, or Sondra and Leigh! Silly.
My only photo of the evening:
The brown meal:
Food and fun:
After the meal, we got out the family band for a bit, and sang a few of our favorites. A John Denver number here:
After-song respite!
Some folks went for a short walk, then built some tiny snowmen in the front yard:
And then, pie.
Ginger cake, pecan and apple:
Chocolate-coconut pecan tart, Maple Chess pie and apple!
Hmmmm… which?
All so, so good.
Just like the day. Happy Thanksgiving all!
