Moments after arriving at my hotel in Nashville — a work trip, fun! fun! — I dropped by bag at the valet and hopped in a taxi headed to Hattie’s.
Even at 11:30 in the morning, there was a line. For Sunday brunch, you can get waffles with your hot chicken!
Hot chicken is just that: spicy. It’s fried chicken – and man, oh man is this good fried chicken — with hot sauce in the batter and paprika, cayenne and garlic powder in the rub. How do I know this? Besides my well-developed palate, of course? A recipe on the Food Network web site, which I am putting in my to-do list this instance: Hattie B’s Hot Chicken.
At the restaurant, you order at the counter, they give you a number, you wait at your table and they bring you your fried goodness.
You may wish to enjoy a beverage while you wait.
Well, well, worth the wait. Crispy, hot fried chicken, so juicy inside. Light airy waffles. And the spice was enough that the maple syrup was a welcome foil!
What an introduction to Nashville!
