We found a winner of a restaurant for our only dinner in the Berkshires: Hops and Vines in Williamstown. A talented chef in the kitchen turns out impressive food — plenty sophisticated enough for a fine dinner out. But there’s also a more casual side to the restaurant that is perfect for our little three-year-old restaurant-lover.
I call this series “Greg in New England.”
On the causal side, the game is playing.
The menu:
Of course Samantha requested French Fries. And ketchup!
The Berkshire Blue Toast was terrific. Nice mild blue cheese, honey, walnuts, with a garlic-rubbed toast.
Beet and arugula salad. Delicious!
Coleman’s All Natural Fried Chicken Breast. Buttermilk potatoes, herb gravy, Mighty Food Farms Lacinato Kale, Bacon and Mushroom Salad, Lemon:
So good! Juicy chicken, potatoes were buttery and silky, gravy was umami and salad was super. A huge success.
Pan-Seared Atlantic Halibut with herbed potato, baby carrots, pinenut and garlic crumble, pea tendril presto and citrus vinaigrette.
The flavors — the idea — behind this: delicious. The execution: eh. The fish was dry. But everything else was so tasty it was still a good dish.
Here is Sam’s reaction when we explained to her the ingredients of an ice cream sundae.
Suffice to say she approved.
We shared a blueberry crumble.
A nice, but simple finish to the meal.
Here’s the more formal dining room:
We highly recommend Hops and Vines!
