Our annual reading of “A Christmas Memory” with Kris, Tom and Irene.
Quivering voices, laughter and tears all made an appearance at this year’s rendition, as always. But the evening ended up being a little more special than usual: it inspired an art installation by Kris. Her Christmas Memory display was displayed beautifully in Nyack’s Window Project, and inspired a generous way to bring the community together around #randomactsoffruitcake.
Kris got about 30 people to bake the cakes at the Nyack Center, and then asked people to nominate villagers who deserve them, just for being kind. Just like the story.
My lohud colleague Robert Brum wrote a story about it: Only in Nyack: Seeking random acts of fruitcake.
Irene takes a turn:
Delishy Stone Barns sausage, which we served over mashed potatoes.
In bowls, naturally.
