Inspired by the T-shirt Sam came home with last Independence Day from White House Day Care, we decided to do a family craft: Fourth of July Flag T-Shirts! You just put a blue handprint down on the T-shirt for the stars, and paint red for the stripes.
You can use Tulip Slick paint, which works on fabric.
Here’s what you need for flag t-shirts:
- Blue paint
- Red Paint
- Smallish paint brushes or foam brushes
- T-shirts
- Have ready: a hose (or a sink), soap and some scrap rags (for your quick clean-up; you will need quick clean=up!)
Cover your palm in paint, then hold it down on the T-shirt for at least 15 seconds.
If you want to have a straight line along the stripes, use your right hand. If you want to have the stripes come in to meet your fingers, use your left hand.
Five or six stripes is about all that will fit, but you get the picture!
We also let the kids decorate another shirt however they wanted to!
Lots of fun, patriotic, and great keepsakes!
