Aburiya Kinnosuke in Manhattan

You know you’re always looking a for a good place to eat in midtown, and you always get frustrated because the meal is either too expensive or not tasty? Here’s your answer: Aburiya Kinnosuke.

It’s an authentic Japanese restaurant, complete with little private rooms, a sushi bar and a charcoal robota grill, which gives food like this edamame a brilliant char.

We ordered the shrimp and asparagus, which was delicious. Look how the asparagus is sliced down the middle, too.

This was a slow-simmered Berkshire pork, sort of like a soup, but with more umami. Really good, also.

My new friend Deb!

I like the little nooks on the banquette.

There are also private rooms.

And I’ll just throw this in here. As I walked back to the train, I got to see an almost-ManhattanHenge.
