This is not a food recommendation. But if you’re going to the theater, and you just want a quick drink and a little something to hold you over, Brasserie Athenee is a pretty darn convenient spot. There is a nice rose on the menu, and you can order a cheese platter or an onion soup or some fries and you won’t be too disappointed. I also like how you can sit at the bar and look through the bottles out onto the street.
The cheese platter. It’s fine.
One more note: Kelli and I went here before seeing the Steppenwolf production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.” A review in the Wall Street Journal said it’s as good a “Virginia Woolf”as you’re likely to see in a lifetime of theater going.” We would agree. The play was riveting. Stunning. Brilliant. Afterwards, Irene and Boo and Kelli and I came back to Athenee, just because we felt we couldn’t walk off into the night without calming down and discussing it for a little while. If you get the chance, go. Go. Really. Go.
The 411 on Brasserie Athenee. The 411 on “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.”
