We went to see Matisse: In Search of True Painting at the Met, and came away learning so much about the artist and his process. The exhibit shows you how he painted in pairs and trios, how he saw light (sometimes in black) and how he even photographed the process of his paintings to demonstrate to his critics that he was as good an editor as he was a painter. (Some had accused him of working too flippantly.)
It was enjoyable also because it was so small. When you’re done walking through the exhibition, you are left wanting more. Which is a great thing. How many times have you slogged through a museum, just ready for the whole thing to be over!
A few Hoppers I saw on the way out, after the jump.
