The Bedford Post Inn is most famous for being owned by Richard Gere and his wife, the actress Carey Lowell. There are luxury rooms, two restauarnts, a yoga studio, a beautiful garden and patio and an events space.
But even with the gorgeous setting, hidden away on a wooded lane in Northern Westchesters, and with the a glittering movie star marquee, chef Jeremy McMillan finds a way to shine very brightly. His food, locally sourced mostly, is deceptive: it looks simple, but he loads layers of flavor into each bite.
He’s recently taken to cooking many items over a wood fire grill on the restaurant’s patio, and this gives the food even one more layer of flavor and texture. A hint of char here; a crackling skin there.
Boo and I had a tasting menu at the fancier of the two restaurants, Farmhouse at Bedford Post, and it felt like a celebration of summer. Here’s a look:
Sweet Corn Soup with basil oil
Mimi’s Breakfast Radish with Anchovy Butter:
Grilled Mission Fig with Noto Almond and Balsamic:
Chorizo and eggplant:
Peaches and arugula with feta:

Spot Prawns, chickpeas, tomato, chili vinaigrette
Speckled Brook Trout cured tomato, olive, artichoke
Grilled Strip Loin porcini, treviso, balsamic
