Irene’s sister, Carol, is in town for her annual December visit. Kris and I met the sisters for a supper at Velo. The food was so good we all decided we need to go back more often. The cocktails, especially, were super. Irene and I loved our Manhattans and Kris’ martini was out of sight.
We all had rich, hearty, wintery food: short ribs and pastas. Irene’s Handmade Ricotta Cavatelli with Sausage and Fennel Ragu and Grana Padano was especially delishy.
Kris and I split a pasta and an entree, and it was a perfect amount of food. Here’s our first course, the Fettuccine with Roasted Pumpkin, Sage Cream Sauce, Ricotta Salata and Candied Walnuts:
Carol and Irene started with a Boston Lettuce Salad with pear and gorgonzola, which was good, but overdressed:
For entrees, Carol got one of my favorites, the gnocchi with lamb bolognese:
Kris and I split the short ribs over polenta. Totally great.
The girls:
The restaurant, all decked out for the hollandaise:
We ordered one but got four desserts. No, we weren’t complaining! Doughnuts:
A “S’mores” cheesecake with a meringue topping and chocolate sauce:
Two apple desserts, one a crumble and one with puff pastry:
All were great.
And the next day, Carol came over to Sour Cherry Farm to meet Sam.
A grand time was had by all.
