An easy Monday night supper to send Sarah back to Texas.
My husband, Greg, and I are co-founders of SCF, which chronicles what we eat, drink and grow as we raise our daughter on a tiny plot of land in the Lower Hudson Valley.
An easy Monday night supper to send Sarah back to Texas.
Celebrating Hunna’s birthday at one of our favorite places with two of our favorite people: Boo and Sarah. The pizza, as usual, was outstanding. A wonderful, light, airy crust. Proscuitto and arugual topping: Sarah and Boo! Goat cheese fritters: Fennel […]
Book club meets infrequently enough that Sarah has been able to particpate in the last two gatherings. For this October edition, she was the proctor for Tenth of December by George Saunders, which, on Jan. 3, 2013, was called, in […]
It’s been a great month. We end it with BLTs and a fun night at the ranch. Blueberry Caiparinas: Cousins have their last supper of summer 2013: A few portraits of us girls: Tomato salad: BLTs […]
An adventure in the city, with a walk on the High Line and a pizza lunch at Artichoke Basille, which does New York-style pizza right. Here’s a look at the photos. Â Â Here’s a stop to see “Untitled” by […]
Another Tuesday, another show! The whole family gathered at the park for a picnic of chicken, Alice’s and Doris’, and Kris and Irene came bearing gifts from Rubiner’s in Great Barrington: fabulous cheeses and charcuterie. Tom’s friends Sally and Dave […]
Our final night in Amagnsett. It was too rainy to spend magic hour at the beach, so we had a little dance party USA with the girls while making dinner. More of those photos to come from Sarah and Laurie, […]
Wherein we drink rose and turn innocent seagulls who happen to be passing by into Ratzo Rizzo from ‘Midnight Cowboy.’ “I”m walkin’ here!”
We thought the day was going to be a washout. Not only did the sun come up, we ended the day with a beautiful moonrise, too. The new outlook reminded Hunna of a poem by Robert Frost: Dust of Snow. […]
As is typical of our vacations, we started out with rain. But we eeked out a nice few hours on the beach, and were able to spend a nice evening on our ocean-view deck. Here are a few photos from […]
An early supper at the ranch: takeout from Cassie’s and the last of this lettuce crop from Sour Cherry Farm. (More is on the way!) The cousins all sat together. Cuties. Laurie! No photos of Sondra, Leigh or Greg […]
A few leftover ribs, a watermelon salad and Laurie’s perfect rendition of Stell’as potato salad and we had the makings for supper at the club. We let the kids swim til they were blue, and spread a tablecloth over the […]
Sarah requested a revival of book club during her visit, so we all read Wiliam Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying, and Greg led the discussion. All were well edified, and well fed, too. We started with Greg’s pickled onions and […]
Mae and Jane try to read stories to Sam before bed. Try being the operative word here. Click through to see two other videos.
A field trip to the city to see some farm animals? As incongruous as that sounds, it was a fun trip! Sarah and her girls against the backdrop of Central Park South: The seals at feeding time!  Love this photo! […]
Goat feeding and other fun frolicking for your YouTubing pleasure.
Sarah and I went to see Peter & The Starcatcher (thumbs up!). Of course she had to taste the famous (at least here on SCF) Don Antonio pizza. (Also a thumbs up!) This version has prosciutto, basil, tomatoes, mozzarella, and […]
Sarah and the girls arrived at Westchester Airport at 3 p.m. By 6:30, we were all down at Memorial Park, picnic table assembled, Bambi blanket spread and beach chairs upright. Steven Swann played and the evening was an absolute blast. […]
Sarah O’Donnell made her first communion Saturday and we all celebrated with a backyard barbecue at Kelli’s. Speidies, brought from Vestal! Yes, please. Sarah with her cake!
We had a little video contest at work, and this was my entry. I hope you like it!
Four families gathered at Kelli and Patrick’s for a fun-filled Easter egg hunt, kids dinner and a big ol’ plate of ham. We started with bloody marys and smoked salmon pizza and ended with lemon-chocolate tart. All was delicious!
Before Broadway, once more, at Don Antonio’s. Since it was Kelli’s first time, we got the classic “fried” pizza. And for Sarah, ever the picky eater, we went with a white pizza with roasted grape tomatoes. Both were delishy! […]
Boo, Kelli and I took the kids for pancakes. And cappuccinos. For us, that is. Delishy, all.
The last concert in the park, and also Sarah’s and the girls’ last night in New York. We made the most of it, though. What a wonderful summer tradition this has become!
Let’s see: Somewhat near the Cloisters? Delicious food? Kid-friendly? Bingo: Dinosaur BBQ. That is my lovely combo platter with pulled pork, brisket and ribs along with salt potatoes and an iceberg wedge. Man oh man was that delicious. Sam had […]
I’ve been trying to visit the Cloisters since, oh, probably the mid-1990s. Finally. We made it. Very happy we did, especially after seeing the gardens. And the unicorns. The Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Here’s […]
Family meal! We made chicken with apricots and peanut sauce and took it over to the Ranch for a Saturday supper. Good stuff, right Greg? Watermelon margies! What?
Iron Chef Sour Cherry Farm is back at it. This time, folks, we’re making BLTs. In this corner, Greg, with his RUFFLES to CRUNCHIFY his sandwich. In the other corner, Sarah, who is going with her own secret weapon! So […]
The whole family — Grammy & Leighlo, Wilson, Sarah, all the cousins and us — enjoyed a summer meal at the farm. Les Dorkages:
Sarah and Wilson and Kelli and Patrick and I went out for dinner on Saturday night. That was a bad idea. We couldn’t get a reservation anywhere. We ended up at Velo for drinks and then headed to OVI for […]
