American 76

We wanted an American cocktail for Thanksgiving, and we wanted something festive and bubbly. Sarah and I came up with a brilliant solution, if we do say so ourselves: a riff on the French 75, with American bourbon instead of gin. We decided to call it the American 76.

American 76
1 cup bourbon
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup simple syrup (made by melting 1 cup of sugar with 1 cup of water, you’ll have leftover)
Shake bourbon-lemon-simple syrup mixture together and chill.
To serve, shake bourbon mixture over ice. Fill a champagne flute halfway with the bourbon mixture and top with American sparkling wine (or, if it’s not Thanksgiving, Champagne, prosecco or cava).
