Art Barge Bike Trip

Greg, Patrick and I took the bikes out to the Art Barge, the Napeague Bay and the Fish Farm. And back. It was scenic — and a lot of fun.

So our first stop was at the Art Barge. Say it with me now, with as flat as an A as you can: Art Barge!

It is officially known as the The Victor D’Amico Institute of Art, and it was founded in 1960 by Victor D’Amico, who was the director of education at MoMA.

It would be a great place to work as an artist.

A peek inside:

The catwalk outside in back:

The views:

The Art Barge’s front yard:

The biker gang:

Now we’re wending our way through the wetlands:

The we arrive at Napeague Bay, where there appears to be a windsurfing event going on:

ON the other side of the bay is this neat sign that explains how great this bay is for oysters.

It’s very beautiful:

After that we headed to the fish farm. Which I like to call the Fellini Fish Farm, because you feel like you’re in a Fellini film when you go there.

They grow fish in tanks. But they also raise geese —

And sell fish in a store:

And sell food to go or to eat at the picnic tables.

The dog is also very mean.

Weird.

After that, we headed back through the wetlands and out past the Art Barge to home.

A nice little 10-mile jaunt. You can see it here on MapMyRide.com.
