Garden Update: Sour Cherries, Blackberries, Currants, Asparagus, Alliums, Peonies, Irises, Columbine and More

A look around the fields, folks. Yes, we seem to have come out of winter hibernation all right! Here’s a pretty one of my newly planted Nepeta.

An ariel view of the backyard, taken from the stair landing. See Sam playing on her bambi blanket?

Another plant sale purchase, a pink chrysanthemum called ‘Sheffield Pink.’

Some bleeding hearts, hanging over a new annual I purchased this year called Ttktktktk:

Another new annual this year. tktktkt:

Planted in the bed by the door:

Nepeta:

Here’s how it was planted:

Alliums:

What I used to think was ‘Johnson’s Geranium’ but now I am not sure. Bill Cary seems to think it’s some native Geranium….

Irises:

The hydrangea is doing well, but I don’t think the butterfly bush likes its home here. It might be too shady. We may be moving that to the bed by the garage. Any thoughts for a shady spot? We need something tall to anchor that spot behind the hydrangea:

We moved one the black currants, ‘blackdown,’ to underneath the pear tree. I hope it’s happier there than it was. It got a little crowded in the other spot:

Sour cherries. And Samantha!

Peonies are about to open!

The columbine got so tall this year. We planted the first one back in 2006. What a difference the garden was then, huh?

Here’s where I planted gladiolas. I hope they look good there! These are the rhizomes I pulled up and overwintered in 2010, but forgot to plant in the spring of 2011. I hope the come up OK!

Here’s ol’ black currant:

Here are his buddies:

The asparagus is still a bit lame:

I may have trimmed the blackberries back a bit too much. I’m only seeing a few white flower:

The tulips that were so beautiful last spring completely disappointed this year. I’m going to have to figure out something else to do back there.

Hello, bees!

A look back down Sour Cherry Farm Way:
