Gallo Nero in Midtown

OK, it’s really called Gallo Nero, or “black rooster” in Italian. But I like my translation. Sarah and I had a fun and fine meal there before seeing “Bring it On.” So, yes, besides the meatballs (which were very good!) […]

Velo and OVI with S&W and K&P

Sarah and Wilson and Kelli and Patrick and I went out for dinner on Saturday night. That was a bad idea. We couldn’t get a reservation anywhere. We ended up at Velo for drinks and then headed to OVI for […]

More Beach Photos!

Today, Greg and I went to the lighthouse at Montauk. All these years and I’d never been inside. Well, we didn’t climb it. Are you kidding? But we did have a nice day out and about. We started out with […]

Art Barge Light Bike Trip

Karen and I did a redux of the Art Barge Bike Trip that Patrick, Greg and I did two years earlier. Well, almost. We didn’t go to the Fellini Fish Farm. And we didn’t actually go to Art Barge. Hence, […]

Amagansett, Day 1

We’re back in Amagansett for a week of beach life. A little beach time during the day. A little dinner for the kids. Then babysitter comes to the unit and we head to the beach for magic hour. Cheers!

Mario the Magician in TriBeCa

We went to see our new neighbor and friend Mario the Magician perform in the city, and to Mae’s great amusement, she was chosen as a helper during the show. Well, criss-cross, applesauce! (Sorry about the blur, but it was […]

Sunday Morning on the Porch

The three cousins were so darn adorable watching cartoons on the porch I couldn’t help but snap a ton of photos. Here’s a looksee: And OK… a couple of videos, too. So cute.

A Chilly Night on the Porch

Laurie and Sarah, hailing from Austin, where the temperature is in the 100s, were thrilled beyond belief that the heat broke — and they got to break out their sweatshirts. Here’s to chilly nights on the porch!

Family Supper on the Porch

The family got together for supper on the porch Thursday, and Greg and Sarah made a simple summer meal. Grilled sausages (soy ones for Lexi), watermelon-feta salad and the zucchini-fennel salad that was such a hit last summer. Lexi and […]

Concert in the Park

The concert in the park nearly wasn’t this week. A band member was more than an hour late! But that didn’t stop us from enjoying our lovely supper of Asian Barbecued Chicken, Doris’ Cucumber Salad and Black Rice with Mango […]

Friends from Far Lands

Greg’s good friend Tony, whom he’s known since college but not seen for 20 years, was visiting New York. They got a chance to catch up, and we got a chance to walk the Highline and have a snack at […]

Sam’s First Swim

Sam got her first taste of the swimming pool at Lake Nanuet. A great little spot, because the whole shallow end is about a foot deep for a long while, which makes it easy to hold a little baby!

The Carnival Comes to Town

Piermont celebrated French Independence Day by closing down the street and serving food, selling trinkets and hiring a band. Because nothing says Bastille Day like a a Dead Cover band. There was also, separately, a carnival in Flywheel Park, hosted […]

Patio Update

I’m sorry I missed capturing video or even photos of this, but Greg rented a jackhammer to try to work down that enormous boulder in the center of our patio. Alas, after 4 hours, it’s still not below the sand line […]

Another Concert in the Park

Somehow, while Greg was hauling dirt out of our driveway, he also found time to make Sour Cherry Farm’s signature dish, Hickory Smoked Chicken. He also put together a salad, following my instructions via text. And wouldn’t you know it, […]

Patio Update

The Bobcat has arrived. Yes, Greg is moving all that dirt into a dumpster. Here he is in action: And here’s the dumpster that received all the dirt. What a project this has turned out to be!

Cousins!

Sarah and the girls have arrived. We came home from the airport and had supper at the farm. Hot dogs and “torn” for them; leftover lobster rolls for us, eaten later.

Cooking for One: Lobster Rolls

Lobster rolls, corn on the cob and Doris’ Cucumber Salad. Mighty fine Sunday supper. For my lobster salad, I toss lobster with mayo, lemon juice, a bit of salt and tarragon. Or chives, if you must.
