My husband, Greg, and I are co-founders of SCF, which chronicles what we eat, drink and grow as we raise our daughter on a tiny plot of land in the Lower Hudson Valley.

Thor, Cathy and Jahn Arrive, Bringing Homemade Bacon for BLTs
And I thought the BLT bar, once set by Benton’s, could not be broken. There is a new pantheon set, folks. Thor, whom SCF fans may remember from such posts as Supper at the Farm, Cathy and Thor Edition and […]
BLT with Egg: Genius or Outrageous?
What do you think of topping an already decadent BLT with a runny farm-fresh egg? I think it was genius. But maybe you think it’s outrageous? Whatever the case, it’s not an every day sort of meal. But when you […]
Sunday Night Supper
Steak, tomatoes and corn. One of the great summer meals, don’t you think? And we started with lemon-thyme gimlets in the orchards by the pear tree.
Iron Chef Sour Cherry Farm: BLT Edition
Iron Chef Sour Cherry Farm is back at it. This time, folks, we’re making BLTs. In this corner, Greg, with his RUFFLES to CRUNCHIFY his sandwich. In the other corner, Sarah, who is going with her own secret weapon! So […]
Family Supper at the Farm
The whole family — Grammy & Leighlo, Wilson, Sarah, all the cousins and us — enjoyed a summer meal at the farm. Les Dorkages:
Family Supper on the Porch
The family got together for supper on the porch Thursday, and Greg and Sarah made a simple summer meal. Grilled sausages (soy ones for Lexi), watermelon-feta salad and the zucchini-fennel salad that was such a hit last summer. Lexi and […]
Cooking for One: Lobster Rolls
Lobster rolls, corn on the cob and Doris’ Cucumber Salad. Mighty fine Sunday supper. For my lobster salad, I toss lobster with mayo, lemon juice, a bit of salt and tarragon. Or chives, if you must.
Sour Cherry Galette
Well, it’s been tough to find time do a lot of baking. So this year, looks we’ll have just one sour cherry pie. And even that isn’t up to its usual standards. I’ve cheated and used puff pastry. The only […]
Cooking for One: Egg Burrito
My version of the terrific egg burrito at Mimi’s Plate in Tappan. It’s made with eggs, avocado, cheddar and salsa.
Salad Bar!
It’s clean-out-the-fridge leftovers night at Sour Cherry Farm. We’ve got chicken, radishes, leftover potato salad, greens and more. Help yourself to the fixin’s bar, folks!
Cooking for One: Salad With Chopped Pork and Snap Peas
Leftover salads — both leafy and potato with snap peas — with chopped pork and eggs. Yum!
Father’s Day Dinner
Greg grills some terrific pork chops, we serve them with two great salads, and Samantha joins us at the table for the first time. Welcome, Sam!
Cooking for One: Chardonnay-Apple Chicken Sausage over Farmers Market Greens with Strawberries
And blueberry vinaigrette! A good cooking for one meal, I’d say! Sam thinks so, too.
Cooking for One: Hot Dogs, Slaw, Watermelon Salad and Chips
After a whole day of cooking brisket, I lit the coals one last time to grill some dogs. In today’s edition of Cooking for One, I present: Grilled hot dogs with toasted buns, watermelon salad with cumin and sea salt, […]
Saturday Salmon Supper
Cooking for one this Saturday evening. An all non-local meal of CoHo salmon, corn on the cob from Georgia and potatoes from who-knows-where. The salmon, especially, was a big treat. Just delicious.
Leftover Lunch
A lunch of leftovers. Fruit salad, egg salad, chicken salad and pizza. Delishy!
Burgers and Beans for My Birthday
A simple birthday supper at Sour Cherry Farm: Burgers and beans with some oven fries and a little salad. We started with cocktails, natch. Aviations for everyone!
Pizza Night in America
Dough from Old World. Greg’s homemade sauce. Mozz. Basil. Parm.
Sheep’s Milk Ricotta Crostini
Just toast some bread, spread some ricotta, toss a few thyme leaves and drizzle a little honey. Yum.
Cooking for One: Speck-Wrapped Scallops, Asparagus and Wave Hill Bread
Easy and delicious. Just wrap the speck around the scallops and sauté for a few minutes. Roast asparagus for 10 minutes and throw the bread in at the end. Drizzle with lemon olive oil. Supper.
Outside at The Filling Station
We’ve been to The Filling Station a couple of times now, but it hasn’t yet been warm enough for us to enjoy our burgers outside at the picnic tables. Well that time has come, friends. The players, after the jump.
Asparagus Season Has Arrived!
The farm’s first spears of asparagus are up! We harvested them and had them with a piece of absolutely delicious porchetta from Tarry Market. Porchetta, for those that don’t know, is pork loin seasoned with lots of herbs, especially sage […]
Good Friday Supper: Fish Three Ways
For Good Friday supper, we were thinking about turning Mark and Angie on to our newly discovered recipe for Bo Ssam. But, it being Good Friday, for Doris, meat was off the table, so to speak. So we went with […]
Cooking for One: Saturday Night Supper
Greg may be at work, but that doesn’t mean we can’t eat well on Saturday nights here at SCF. I present eggs over easy with Schaller & Weber lardons, arugula from the garden and Wave Hill bread with lemon olive […]
Coffee Is Becoming More Important To Us Now
I don’t know if it’s because Samantha wakes me up in the night, or if my tastes are changing, but lately, I’ve found I need my coffee to taste better. We’ve gone almost exclusively French Press. I’ll post about that […]
Grilling Season Opens at Sour Cherry Farm
And just like that, winter is over. Skirt steak with Alton Brown’s marinade, baked potato and greens from the Palisades Farmers Market. With wedges of rosemary ring bread from Balthazar Bakery (also sourced at the Palisades Market).
Cooking for One: Saturday Night Supper
Just because Greg is at work on the weekends doesn’t mean I won’t occasionally be making something really great to eat on Saturday nights. This week, I went to the Palisades Indoor Farmers market and got some Long Island scallops […]
Cocktails and Homemade Soup
For our Friday night by the fire, we had Perfect Manhattans made with Rittenhouse Rye and then settled in for a bowl of Greg’s terrific homemade soup. This is the third time he’s made the soup, so I think we’re […]
Soup Angel
A bowl of homemade chicken soup and a sleeping baby, or, as Greg headlined it: “Soup Angel.” Yes, it’s another quiet weekend night here at the farm. And before supper, during playtime, Sam’s latest trick — grabbing stuff and putting […]
