Jill recommended we make this drink, a take on the Propsect Park Sour that she loves to order at Clover Club in Brooklyn. It was a big hit. The recipe from Saveur calls for Abano, a type of Amaro. If you don’t have Abano, you can subsitute Averna, as we did. Or if you have neither, just use bitters!
Maple Rye Sour
2 ounces rye
½ ounce fresh lemon juice
½ ounce fresh orange juice
¼ ounce maple syrup
¼ ounce Luxardo Amaro Abano liqueur
Strip of orange peel, for garnish
Combine whiskey, juices, syrup, and liqueur in a cocktail shaker, fill with ice, and cover; shake vigorously until chilled. Strain into a chilled sour glass and garnish with orange peel.
