Reading of ‘A Christmas Memory’

Joe and Suzie hosted year’s annual reading of Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory.” Now, you may recall that Joe and Suzie also host a New Year’s Day Open House, and they spend days preparing for it. So, they did the simple thing: asked us to cook. Glad to! Especially when they provided such a rich spread of appetizers and fine wines.

Pates, saucissons, cheeses, bread and Blue Cheese Cheesecake. YES!

Here’s the gang, gathered around the Christmas tree. For the first time, Moria and Keith are joining!

Joe, Suzie, Greg.

Before supper, we did the reading.

Suzie, about to lose it and cry.

Now let’s dig in! Here’s the spread.

Brisket with gremolata, by Irene!
Scalloped potatoes by Kris and Tom.
Cauliflower puree by us; carrots by Kris and Tom!
Arugula salad with blue cheese and cranberries. By us.
A beautiful bowl of delicious food!

Lots of laughs!

After supper, to the great dismay of Suzie, Joe took us down to the basement to show us how he de-salts the ham for the New Year’s Day open house over many changes of water.

Country ham.

Now, Samantha’s favorite portion of the evening: Dessert time. Moriah and Keith made a beautiful chocolate cake.

Another Truman Capote reading in the books. And everyone went away happy and full.
